Collaboration with COP28 and Climate Change
Chairman and CEO of DP World Group-Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem stated that they are honored to announce their relationship with the COP28 Presidency. They recognize the environmental impact of their operations as a major player in the global logistics business.
DP World Group Chief Sustainability Officer Maha AlQattan stressed the importance of their collaboration with the UNclimate change conference and other industry partners in addressing climate change and supporting sustainable global trade. She also talked about how important it is to work together to change sectors, open up new possibilities, and plot a course toward a more resilient, net-zero future.
AlQattan further added that sustainability was key to all of their business decisions, with the goal of influencing societal and economic reform for future generations through commerce. She added that their work with COP28 and their clear path to net-zero emissions aims to connect innovation with duty by using logistics to make positive changes on a global scale.
Decarbonization is one of DP World’s main goals, and the company has already made a commitment to reach carbon neutrality by 2040. In addition, they hope to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050, aligning with the UNFCCC’s Race to Zero effort and the UAE’s 2050 net zero plan.
DP World declared its participation in the Green Shipping Challenge and its intention to contribute up to $500 million to reduce CO2 emissions by roughly 700,000 tonnes over the following five years during COP27 last year.
The company has also joined the UN Global Compact’s Think Lab on Just Transition and formed a strategic collaboration with the Maersk McKinney Moller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping.
