How Electric Vehicles Affect The Environment: Environmental Pros And Cons

Undoubtedly, gas-powered vehicles emit tons of carbon dioxide into the air which pollutes the environment badly consequently resulting in difficult breathing, high blood pressure, elevated heart rate, dizziness, and asphyxia. Electric vehicles are the alternative solution that doesn’t only support the environment but also saves humans from different disorders.

The giant motor company, General Motors, has claimed to start producing battery-enabled cars by 2035 and will cease to sell gas-powered cars. Though autonomous cars are a smarter choice to operate but are they really going green? How will they tackle the environmental impact and how are they better for the environment? Read further to discover the environmental pros and cons of electric cars from a greener perspective.

Environmental Pros Of Electric Cars

●    Safer For The Environment

Electric cars are pretty safe for the environment as they don’t emit exhaust thus they have achieved zero gas emission. Contrarily, gas-enabled vehicles are the root cause of the increased greenhouse effect on our planet which is polluting our environment adversely. EVs are eco-conscious, making more and more people switch towards them to promote healthier living and cleaner air.

●    Reduced Air And Noise Pollution

Autonomous cars don’t only reduce air pollution but also lower noise pollution. About 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide are produced annually by passenger vehicles. In addition, living near a busy road may affect your hearing due to sudden loud noise and screeching of vehicles. However, a significant amount of air and noise pollution can be reduced by producing and selling EVs.

●    Manufactured From Recyclable Materials

If not all then in the manufacturing procedure of maximum of the electric vehicles, recyclable materials have been used. The interior parts of most of the EVs such as car dashboards or seats are manufactured with recyclable materials. BMW claims that recyclable material has been used to assemble the interior of its electric i3 car. Even the batteries consumed to power the electric cars are also recyclable for further use.

Environmental Cons Of Electric Cars

●    Huge Initial Investment

EVs are quite expensive compared to gas-enabled vehicles and require a large investment in the initial stages. Investing in autonomous cars can cost you a fortune because the most reasonable EVs can cost you between $30,000 to $40,000 range. Due to expensive technological advancements, a luxury electric car may require a huge investment of $80,000 or more.

●    Unavailability Of Consistent Charging Points

Though electric cars are a hot-button discussion, their charging stations are relatively off the topic at the moment. Due to a lack of charging points, consumers are at the grievance to invest in EVs. In addition, EVs can take a lot of time to recharge again depending upon the size of the battery, they are consuming.

●    Batteries Emit Harmful Fumes

EVs surely reduce air pollution as they have zero-emission but they have indirect effects on climate change and human health. The batteries they consume, emit toxic fumes that may irritate human lungs or cause damage to skin and eyes.
